2006 What We Learned About Groundhogs

In Japan We Learned that...

Groundhogs live in Pennsylvania. They are part of the squirrel family. They are sometimes called woodchucks. They are little furry animals. They hibernate in the winter. That means they sleep in winter. They sleep in burrows. The burrows are about 30 feet long. Groundhogs whistle when they are in danger. They sometimes have four or five babies in the summer. Groundhogs’ teeth keep growing all their lives.

2006 Our Communities/Wild Life

Adams Elementary School

We have lots of crows at our school. They like to help clean up after we eat lunch.

Sometimes we see a squirrel but not very often.

At night sometimes we see an opossum in our backyard. They like to get into the trashcan. They like to eat snails but we don’t see them eating snails.

We have ants, worms, beetles and crickets too.

Cummings Elementary School

One of our wild animals is called a Tanuki. He is a raccoon like animal. In the Mario Bros. game, Mario puts on a Tanooki suit and has the power to turn into a statue.

We have red foxes (Hondo Kitsune) and Siberian Swans (Hakuchou). We also have crows, squirrels, and salt and fresh water fish.

Florence Hill Elementary

We have armadillos, deer, skunks, opossums, birds, and rabbits.
